Summer Youth Art Camps
at your YMCA Community Art School
DRAMA CAMP
Students will have lots of fun in this action-packed camp focusing on the process of creating theatre through fun, imaginative, nurturing creative play and ensemble building. No matter the level of experience, the young actor will learn and develop their physical and vocal techniques for on-stage readiness while engaging in various theatre games, improvisation, and scene work. This intensive camp will culminate in a Final Showcase
of each student’s work. Instructed by Kelly Lovall, former Port Angeles
High School Director/Drama Coach.
“Fish on the Fence” Camp 
Participants will sculpt with stoneware clay then paint 6 different local fish species and other local marine life, getting inspiration from a field trip to the Fiero Marine Life Science Center.Students will select one piece to donate for display on the Port Angeles waterfront at Fiero’s “Fish on the Fence” project.Instructed by Rosalynn Rees, Artist & Owner of Aglazing Arts.

Arts & Action Camp
45 minutes of creative activities plus 45 minutes

“My Life”

Adult Art Offerings for Spring & Summer
Introduction to Glass Fusing Part 1
Date: May 7th
Time: 6 to 8:30 pm
Cost: $65 Members $75 Non-Members
Students will learn how to cut glass, and will explore the properties of glass and basic glass fusing techniques to help them create their very own free form vase in clear transparent glass. Composition will be abstract shapes and colors. Students will further explore the properties of glass and will learn how to use opaque and specialty dichroic glass to build a striking shallow
glass platter from opaque glass. Students will be encouraged to use a pattern for their composition.
Clay & Glaze Series - Give back to Nature Workshop with Rosalynn Rees
Date: March 19th & March 26th
Cost: $65 Members/ $75 Non-Members
Students will explore the organic properties of Stoneware clay and will have an opportunity to create a functioning bird feeder which they can leave out all year round. In session 2, students will glaze their birdfeeders with specialty pottery glazes which will carry forth the beautiful organic qualities of stoneware clay.

Ceramics Painting - Fun with Brush Strokes with Rosalynn Rees
Dates: April 30th & May 7th
Cost: $87 Members/ $97 Non-Members
Students will create a coordinated 4-piece serving set (two oval platters, spoon rest and a deep serving bowl) and they will learn to create simple designs on pottery through simple brush strokes. Students will learn about the use of color and transparency of glazes by using the rules of contrast to glaze over both dark and light background colors.

“It’s My Life” – Writing the Personal Memoir
6-week session with award-winning author Jerry Kraft. Participants
focus on identifying, organizing and composing stories based on
personal history. Writing experience is not necessary.
Dates: Mondays May 4th – June 15th (no class on May 25th)
Time: 10am to Noon
Cost: $45 members, $50 non-members
Ages: 50+

Beginning & Intermediate Guitar for Adults
with Performer and Instructor Thom Davis
Have you ever wanted to learn to play the guitar? Interested in taking your guitar skills to the next level? Thom offers a simple approach to learning in a fun, friendly atmosphere. In addition to guitar classes Thom offers on occasion workshops on mandolin, ukulele, guitar care, and more. If interested, contact the YMCA Art School for more information.

Come create this darling crocheted purse in two short sessions.
Participants purchase own yarn – supply list available a the YMCA
or via email. Crochet hook is provided & yours to keep! We will
finish purses with a fabric lining. See sample in display case in the YMCA lobby.
Intro to Digital Photography for Teens and Adults
If you’re stuck on point-and-shoot and never use other settings on your digital camera, this is the class for you! Kristina of Kika’s Photography will show you what your camera can do, and will take you to another realm—from snapshots to photographs—as you explore photography as an art form. Bring a charged digital camera, notebook, pen, & extra batteries.
