Congrats to the Clallam County Corrections Department for taking on a well fortified team of Y-sters on their home turf and coming out, fierce (albeit weary) competitors. A rematch is in both of our futures as we attempt to determine the ultimate dodgeball champion.

Girls Volleyball Academy Registration: 9/11-9/25 Grades: 3rd-6th Coaches Meeting: Sept. 21st (Time, TBA) Sessions: Monday 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, and 11/2
Saturday’s 10/17, 10/24, 10/31, and 11/7 Fee: $45 Member/$55 Non-member Location/Times: Monday at PAHS 5 p.m-6:30 p.m..; Saturdays at YMCA 12:30-1:30 games. Format: This academy is for girls who have never played before or want to work on and develop proper technique. It is also designed to identify parents who may wish to coach volleyball or want to learn more about the sport. Monday nights will be sessions run by Port Angeles H.S. head volleyball coach and the varsity team. After the first two Monday sessions the girls will be divided up by age group and skill to form teams of 6 kids for 3v3 play. Coaches from the kids parents will be selected to attend the Monday night sessions and then to coach their team of 6 on four separate Saturdays for modified 3v3 play.
Registration: 9/11-11/13 Grades: K-6 (K-2 co-ed) Coaches Meeting: Nov. 19th Season Runs: 11/30-2/27 Fee: $45 Member/$55 Non-member Practices: Once a week, 1hr long, between the hours of 5:30 – 9pm. We make every effort to have the younger kids practice at the 5:30pm time. This may not be possible due to coaches and gym availability. We can also not assure which gym you practice at, so please don’t ask. Location is based on convienance of the coach and gym availability. Games: Saturdays at Stevens Middle School Format: Recreational basketball designed to focus on the four core values of Honesty, Respect, Caring and Responsibility. We teach these values by focusing on skills, team work, and individual effort through the game of basketball. Team Formation: Teams are formed by schools they attend for grades k-2. 3rd – 6th are formed with preference given to kids who were on same team as year before and then by school they attend. K is coed and play on modified courts and lowered hoops with special restricitions.
1st- 6th grade is gender specific.
3/4 grade teams play on modified court with a 10ft hoop and jr size ball and modified rules.
5/6th grade play on standard size court with some limitations on defense styles.
Peter Stewart Basketball Clinic:
Peter has an award-winning program at Peninsula College and a great way of breaking down the game for kids grades K-12. This is a clinic that kids, parents and coaches will not want to miss.

On-the-Water Rowing
Do you know that: More than 1,600 Clallam County students have been introduced to the sport of "Indoor Rowing" since December 2007. OPRA rowing ergometers are also available at the YMCA, at the Port Angeles Senior Center, and at the Sequim Boys and Girls Club.
Over 2,000 full-ride athletic scholarships are potentially available to entering freshmen by colleges and universities for their women’s rowing programs.
Our indoor rowing program at schools in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks and Joyce has resulted in positive feedback from students, PE teachers, athletic directors, school administrators, school board members and other observers.
On-the-Water Rowing
Build teamwork skills in a YMCA rowing class.
Location: 1431 Ediz Hook (East of Paddle Park, White building with Rowing Sign. Park in Front)
Equipment Recommended:

Intro to Rowing What: OLYMPIC Peninsula Rowing Assoc. (OPRA) and YMCA will start on the water rowing programs using eight-seat or four-seat shells with sweep rowing in March. *Prerequisite: Must show record of completed Red Cross certified float test (Schedule at William Shore Pool ) Who: Men and Women ages 16+ When: The first Saturday (unless otherwise noted) beginning March 6th, April 3rd and May 1st. 9:30am – 11am Cost: $50 non-member, $25 YMCA member for four training sessions and orientation.
* Introduction to rowing and safety with instructors
* This class must be completed before any participant can purchase an OPRA membership and participate in intermediate or open-row programs.
After four sessions of On-the-Water Rowing and orientation, participants may purchase OPRA membership to continue rowing once they complete this course to the satisfaction of the instructor.

If participant wishes to purchase OPRA membership at the end of course to keep rowing the cost of your intro to row class will be credited toward your membership costs. OPRA membership: $200 Non-member; $100 YMCA member
Intermediate Rowing
Intermediate rowing sessions will take place on Wednesday mornings and Saturdays.
Must have OPRA membership to participate and completed INTRO or approved by coach.
Youth Sailing
Back by popular demand, our youth sailing program will set sail in March. This program will use our two-person Vangaurd 15s to teach the basics and racing skills. Stay tuned for program details. High School Judo Team
If you would like to try something new, fun and challenging then this is the sport for you. H.S. Judo team members will have the chance to earn a varsity letter, learn a lifetime sport and compete against other H.S. Judo teams across the state.This sport is offered as a high school sport throughout the school year, and participants don't need to participate all year. Competition is offered with other schools during the spring only, but other competition is available in the fall and winter.

Judo Team Brings Home 2009 Championship Trophy May 11, 2009 Port Angeles, Wash. - In its first year of interscholastic competition, the Port Angeles High School Judo Team was awarded the B Team (small team) Championship for the 2009 season by the Puget Sound Judo League.
The Roughriders received the award at the outset of the May 9 Pacific Northwest High School and Middle School Judo Championships held at Kentridge High School in Kent, Washington where the team finished in eighth place out of twenty-nine competing high school teams.
Contributors to the team’s success were gold medalist Elspeth Charno (women’s middle school 58 kg division), silver medalist Derek Crain (men’s high school 60 kg division) and bronze medalist Tanner Fleming (men’s high school 90 kg division).
Also competing on behalf of Port Angeles were Takara Andrus, Caleb Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Luke Johnson, Jesse Major and Tharen Lowell.
At the championship meet, the team was coached by Senseis Pat Crain and Garret DelaBarre.
The Port Angeles High School Judo Team is sponsored in part by the Clallam County Family YMCA and The United Way.

Aikido
